Power Of Prayer
Struggling with life’s problems can make us feel powerless and small when we try to handle them all by ourselves. Looking at all the pain and suffering in the world, and the hurt it causes when some of it touches our lives, is disheartening and discouraging. But fortunately, there’s Someone stronger than us Who’s waiting for us to call on Him for help, and a heartfelt prayer gets Him to intervene on our behalf. Studying the Word of God reveals not only how powerful prayer is, but the proper way to pray to see results.
Power of Prayer |
We’ve all seen how religious church folks pray according to some pre-determined doctrine or philosophy, but more often than not, nothing happens. They don’t understand the power of prayer, or where that Source of power comes from. We may even be able to derive some sort of perverse enjoyment from dwelling on what’s wrong in our lives, but when we contemplate on everything that’s right in our lives we’re forced to realize how much we have to be thankful for. “Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving”(Colossians 4:2, NKJV). Prayer is a direct conversation with God, and it pleases Him when we praise Him and give Him our thanks.
Prayer is a two-way form of communication, and when we confidently believe that God will answer us when we make a request, He will honor the confidence we place in Him. When we converse with Him through prayer, He reveals to us things that the rest of the world doesn’t know. “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not” (Jeremiah 33:3). God doesn’t change. What He said thousands of years ago is still true today, and will remain true until the end of time.
Effective prayer requires having faith in what God promises us in the Scriptures. One of those promises is that He’ll give us peace of mind when we trust Him enough to turn over all our worries to Him. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6, 7, NIV). Whatever went wrong in our life, God is able—and He wants to—right the wrongs.
Praying with the full expectation that what we ask for will come to pass will free Him up to fulfill our requests. This means not allowing any doubt to cloud our minds, and simply believe without reservations. “And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive” (Matthew 21:22). This is very simple and straightforward, and we must be careful not to add conditions or make it complicated. This really works whether we’re praying for healing of any kind, deliverance from a tough situation, or freedom from negative emotions.
The Power Of Prayer |
When we begin to experience the amazing power true prayer holds, we suddenly realize how it literally changes our entire life. If we simply believe, prayer turns defeat into victory and changes everything. This knowledge gives us access to God’s presence at any time and fills us with joy from heaven. “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, NKJV). Take God at His word!
